About Debbie Strong

Debbie is a freelance writer and photographer whose work has been featured in the Yucaipa News Mirror and Living With Wildfire magazine. Debbie worked closely with the Mountain Rim Fire Safe Council and DuPlain Designs on the Living With Wildfire magazine through a California Climate Investment grant.

She examined 18 years of major catastrophic fires in the San Bernardino County area and the post-fire impact on the area after a rewarding 30 years in the fire service as a fire captain. She worked through the ranks of firefighter, engineer, and fire captain. Her diverse career ranged from various assignments as a fire captain, including working at the fire station, Emergency Command Center, City Fire Marshal, Pre-Fire Engineering, Public Information Officer, Cartographer/Analysis and Fire Investigator. Debbie studied sports medicine, fire science, and geographical information systems (GIS) and earned a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Cal State University, San Bernardino.

Debbie is working on the second chapter of her life by embracing storytelling, starting with her camera in hand, poetry and journaling as she travels to various countries, capturing stunning landscapes, street photography and astrophotography images. Debbie has traveled extensively abroad and around Canada.

Her upcoming memoir, Hearts in Focus, is an exciting blend of traditional memoir, photography, and poetry, exploring the multi-faceted way that grief and healing show up in our lives.
